Reports on the Violent Extremism Resilience Index (DRIVE)

The Index reveals crucial dynamics for preventing the infiltration of violent extremist groups in Ivory Coast, by identifying the levers of resilience to be strengthened within vulnerable communities.

This report presents the Violent Extremism Resilience Index (DRIVE), an innovative tool designed to assess and strengthen the capacity of Ivorian communities to resist the influence of violent extremist groups (VEGs). In a context where the threat of violent extremism is intensifying, particularly in border regions, the index offers an in-depth analysis of the stressors and resilience capacities of localities in northern Côte d'Ivoire.

The report's main findings highlight that the social acceptability of community-based initiatives (CBIs) is fueled by a growing detachment from state institutions. Approximately 15% of respondents view these groups as viable alternatives to local authorities, thereby increasing their influence. The report also sheds light on intercommunal tensions and perceptions of marginalization that undermine social cohesion.

To counter this dynamic, the report recommends strengthening social immunity through community development initiatives, improved local governance, and the promotion of gender equality. Peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms and educational programs are essential for building trust between citizens and security forces.

In summary, this report is a call to action for policymakers, civil society organizations and international partners, providing concrete recommendations to build sustainable resilience to violent extremism in Côte d'Ivoire.
